DESCRIPTION OF SECURITY TYPES SM3.02 PAGE 1 OF 3
Security types are used by the programs to control logic flow and
calculations, and to select captions on reports. Specification of a
security type is required for addition of a security to the catalog.
WARNING: Once entered, the security type cannot be changed!
Any or all security types may exist in the catalog. Explanation of the
available types follows. They are described in the same order in which
they appear in the Stock Select and Current Data Update screens.
CASH EQUIV. - for cash accounts, savings accounts, certificates of de-
posit (CDs) and most money market funds.
MARGIN ACCT. - for a broker margin account.
COMM. PAPER - for commercial paper, notes receivable and other similar
types of securities.
The previous three security types are not used in this version of the
Stock Charting System. They are included for compatibility with the
Personal Portfolio Analyzer, a companion product by the same author.

CORP. BONDS - for corporate bonds such as those issued by IBM, AT&T etc.

Ask your broker for a bond guide.
PREF. STOCK - for individual preferred stocks.
COMMON STOCK - for individual common stocks.
MUTUAL FUND - for mutual funds of most types, regardless of what kinds
of securities they invest in. Generally not for money market funds.
Although the Stock Charting System is not designed to handle real estate
or limited partnerships, some of these securities trade on the exchanges
like stocks. Some examples are ServiceMaster L.P. (Limited Partnership)
and New Plan Realty Trust (a real estate investment trust). These can
be treated as common stocks.
